KILL ME EP (Extended)
by Syringeguy/Jon Irons

                               --INTRODUCTION--

KILL ME EP is both a joke and a serious effort. I was trying to learn the ropes
of the Soundtracker module tracking software and I figured the best way to do
it would be to create some tracks that wouldn't be taken seriously anyway. The
result is KILL ME EP: a small selection of songs composed of sounds mostly
found in the computer game Marathon (and, in one song, Marathon's predecessor,
Pathways into Darkness). The track titles are mostly jokes understood by only
a handful of people, most of them Marathon players. I won't go into detail
about the meanings of these jokes.

The original release of KILL ME EP was early summer 2007. I took it off the
Internet less than a month later, and it has since languished on my hard drive.
When my Web site changed format, I re-considered putting some of my "artwork"
back up (the Syringeguy pages). With that accomplished, I realized I was
missing something: KILL ME EP, Syringeguy's Magnum Opus.

You might be wondering what these "practice tracks" led to. I have to admit,
not much. I only made three tracks after I finished KILL ME EP. I've included
them as the "bonus" material for the Extended release. The first two are
serious attempts at creating music, using free samples from a real musician
(more on that later). The last is a short comedic piece that re-interprets the
perils of the "Fat Sam" character featured in a YMCA Counselor Training video.

"LiTech" and "Deep" are licensed under the Creative Commons Non-Commercial
Sampling Plus deed. The original samples are from the site called g_essense. I
am very greatful to have found such interesting samples for free, and I thank
g_essense for providing them. Check the SITES section for more info on the
license used and the original creator's own site.

                                 --LICENSE--

As with the samples in "LiTech" and "Deep," this entire EP is released under
the Creative Commons Non-Commercial Sampling Plus license. If you sample this
work, all you have to do is attribute the original to me (or, if you simply
take individual samples from the g_essense songs, you will have to attribute
that creator). I would actually prefer releasing undera more liberal license,
but I want to retain compatibility with the g_essense samples.

Oh yeah, and you can't sell this work, unless you get express approval from me.
If you want to sell "LiTech" and "Deep," you'll also have to ask g_essense. I'd
just give them out for free if I were you. For simplicity's sake, and because
I'm not totally clear on the stance of the license on whole-song distribution,
I prefer for you to link to the site from which this EP originated (see the
SITES section); however, if the site no longer appears to exist, attempt to
contact me (see CONTACT section). If you don't hear from me within a few days,
assume it's OK to redistribute the EP (not in part, but in whole) from wherever
you want.

See the SITES section of this document for the location of the license docu-
mentation.

                                 --CONTACT--

If for some reason you wish to contact me (praise, criticism, or especially
permission to sell the songs and/or sample them in commercial work), my e-mail
address is jonirons@gmail.com.

                              --ACKNOWLEGEMENTS--

Thanks to the creators of Marathon, the Marathon community, and especially
Darren Watts, Alex Bolton, Gregory Smith, and Jonathan Gaffney. These guys have
provided me with several years of guidance and humor.

Thanks also to Underworld, my primary source for beautiful music. I can't even
touch these guys in my musical compositions, but they sure did provide a nice
goal to shoot for.
